The Board members were presented with the signature NACC hat band and the crowd was welcomed for an evening of celebration, recognition, and dinner.
Smith continued to speak of Chamber marketing opportunities as well as the 50thbirthday celebration of Norco as a city. In regards to fundraising for the George Ingalls’ Veterans’ Memorial, the NACC announced that it will be hosting the annual State of the City on March 27th at Nellie Weaver Hall at which a silent auction will be featured with 100% of the proceeds going towards the memorial.
Before leaving the audience to hear legislative news from political leaders, Smith reminded the audience, “Shop Norco, and Buy Chamber!”
In addition to Senator Roth, Assemblyman Eric Linder, Riverside County District Attorney Paul Zellerbach, Janet Green and Nathan Miller of the RCCD Board, Cathy Sciortino and John Zickgoose with the Corona-Norco School Board, and Norco Councilmembrs Kathy Azevedo, Kevin Bash, and Greg Newton were present to recognize the Board and award winners.
Sunday Barreto was named Volunteer of the Year for her contributions to many events in the city of Norco. Barreto is an integral part of the Horseweek Committee, is on the city’s 50th birthday committee, has raised funds for NART, the Norco Animal Rescue Team, and took part on the USO Dance committee which raised $31,000 for the Ingalls Veterans Memorial.
Next, Karen Linton-Gransee, owner and operator of the McDonald’s restaurants in the community, was named Business of the Year. Gransee built the McDonald’s on Sixth Street more than 20 years ago and owns eight in total. McDonald’s has been very supportive of the Norco community, including sponsoring many local events such as the Norco Fair, Horseweek, Casino Night, the Parade of Lights, the Lake Norconian walk, and most recently, the Film Festival. Lisa Michelle, a nineteen-year employee of McDonald’s, and Cristina Rodriguez, the new store manager for the McDonald’s on Sixth Street, accepted the award for Gransee who was not able to attend.
The Chamber Volunteer of the Year recognition was awarded to Norco High School student Alexa Diaz, who has been volunteering at NACC for the past year. Diaz is the co-creator of the new NACC website and editor of the weekly e-newsletter in addition to providing photographic and editorial coverage of chamber events. Per NACC Executive Director Diane Collins, “Alexa is an amazing young woman, and we have been blessed to have her assistance. She will be sorely missed when she leaves us for Syracuse University this year.”
The Norco Area Chamber of Commerce thanks their event sponsors Norco College, Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione, DiGerolamo Family Insurance, McDonald’s of Norco, and Norco Valley Dental for their support.
